Online Study
Students are
allocated approximately 18 to 20 hours of work per week consisting of online lecture sessions, individual tasks, and assignments and live online tutorials on the following topics:

  • Professional Studies: generic professional issues, such as school organisation, the National Curriculum, how children learn and behaviour management.
  • Subject Knowledge Enhancement: key knowledge, skills and understanding in general science or maths at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5; and up to Level 3 (first year undergraduate) in the chosen subject specialism of science or mathematics. Note that as chemistry and physics specialists are likely to be required to teach general science in most schools, all science students will also study common modules in physics, chemistry and biology before specialising in their chosen area in Block 3.
  • Subject Pedagogy: teaching and learning specific to physics, chemistry or mathematics.

School Placements
Students are required to meet the TDA requirements for this programme, undertaking three or four teaching placements in at least two different schools during the course. All students are Criminal Records Bureau checked prior to commencing their placements. Teaching practices take place in England.

Student Support
Students are supported by personal tutors, academic tutors and a team of technical support staff, and during school placements they are also supported by a regional pathway tutor and by school mentors.
